to go to bed were all met with Su Cen's request that they do so first. In the end, unable to persuade him any further and concerned about dampening his enthusiasm, Zeng Ke and Su Licheng returned to...Chapter 53 Not Too Obscene

Besides the class, Wang Guiwen came to the classroom door and called on Su Can to leave. As soon as Wang Wei pointed out Su Can's name, a low murmur spread through the classroom.

Su Can walked up to Wang Guiwen, who had his hands behind his back. Someone at the classroom door kept peeking outside. After glancing at Su Can, Wang Guiwen said, "The principal wants to see you."

"Oh." Su Can nodded. He thought that Wang Guiwen's tone was rather indifferent, which wasn't unexpected. It was just a formality; the school couldn't pretend that the incident with Li Ying didn't happen.

Wang Guiwen's face was still stern, like an unripe and sour grape. Su Can found it understandable. Since their first meeting, he had always had a bad impression of Wang Guiwen, who wanted to assert his authority in front of new students. As for him, with the soul of two lifetimes, he clearly wouldn't be intimidated by such behavior. Some kind of conflict was inevitable.

Back then on the rooftop, when Wang Guiwen tried to persuade him, Su Can had used it as an opportunity to counter-argue and separate the jumping girl from her concentrated energy. But in front of many teachers and leaders at school, reducing Wang Guiwen's status like that made him unhappy and didn't need to force a smile for Su Can.

The bell rang for class break; people began leaving their classrooms, looking at Su Can and Wang Guiwen suspiciously, not surprisingly mistaking them for being scolded by the teacher.

Teachers criticizing students outside of class is quite common, so other classes only glanced and left.

Although many now knew something about the boy who saved someone and his class, there were still some who didn't recognize Su Can as the student being led out by a teacher.

Besides students from their own class, most of those discussing this incident hadn't connected the person who had saved Li Ying with that week's student on the exposure board or the one who wrote an article in "Morning Flowers." After all, few had seen it happen firsthand.

Just like today morning, but since the incident happened last Friday and many were unclear about the situation, when Monday classes started, public opinion was rising. Soon enough, Su Can would be recognized and confirmed as the person involved.

Wang Guiwen walked silently in front while Su Can followed behind; neither said anything more, seeming to have their own thoughts but not expressing them.

When they arrived at the administrative building, it was hot outside but cool inside. Outside, Sun Man and other girls from the Literary Society and Broadcasting Club were seen, considered a scenic spot on campus. She was still slapping out a manuscript with her hand; after seeing Su Can, she noticed Wang Guiwen's solemn face ahead and stuck out her tongue at him in an endearing manner.

From this, it seemed that Su Can's performance last Friday had greatly improved the impression Sun Man had of him. She no longer viewed Su Can with hostility but rather like a friend.

Su Can glanced at Sun Man and her friends; he didn't have time to deal with them now. He entered the administrative building with Wang Guiwen, who was greeted by someone, likely regarding his involvement in the compilation of final exams questions for the education bureau. Wang Guiwen nodded and pointed up the stairs at Su Can, saying, "You've been here before; you know where it is. I won't be going up."

Su Can hummed softly to himself. From walking with him all this way, he felt extremely suffocated; it was better if Wang Guiwen didn't accompany him.

Su Cen took two steps up the stairs when he heard Wang Guiwen hum behind him, "Oh right."

In the stairwell, Su Cen held onto the railing and glanced sideways as Wang Guiwen appeared to have remembered something. He said, "You handled last Friday's incident well."

Su Cen stared at Wang Guiwen as he turned around and walked into his office, feeling a bit bewildered by this "well" evaluation. In his mind, he wondered if all teachers nowadays were introverted yet expressive.

Wang Guiwen had actually been quite unhappy when he was humiliated in public back then. Being confronted privately by students could be dealt with, but given the circumstances at that time, it was inevitable for him to develop some resentment towards Su Cen.

However, from a practical standpoint, what Su Cen did on Friday was indeed commendable. Although this particular student had an unusual personality and wouldn't care about his evaluation anyway, Wang Guiwen felt that overlooking the merits of what Su Cen did just because he harbored some resentment would be unfair to him. Therefore, giving Su Cen a well-deserved "well" made sense, and saying it actually left Wang Guiwen feeling inexplicably relieved.

As Su Cen entered Principal Cai Guotao's office, he was still processing Wang Guiwen’s evaluation of him as "well."

He knocked on the door and heard a voice from inside say, “Come in.” Upon entering, he saw that it was still the half-opened window office where sunlight filtered through to create pools of light amidst the dimness. Principal Cai sat at his redwood desk while beside him were Li Ying's parents: an imposing middle-aged man and a refined-looking middle-aged woman.

The couple had been sizing Su Cen up as he entered; the woman’s eyes looked puffy, indicating she had been crying, and they welled up again upon seeing him.

Principal Cai chuckled from his seat and greeted Li Ying's parents, "This is the student I mentioned before, Su Cen."

The way Principal Cai addressed them indicated that their status was no ordinary one.

The middle-aged man stood up and walked over to shake Su Cen’s hand vigorously, nodding his head in approval: "Son, you’re very brave. The students of No. 27 High are all excellent! You're an outstanding young man!"

Su Cen could feel the sincerity from this man; the woman even stepped forward to say “Thank you” repeatedly while tears streamed down her face, which she hurriedly wiped away. Witnessing this, Su Cen couldn’t help but be annoyed with Li Ying—living a sheltered life under their parents' indulgence and pampering, she was nothing like Lin Luoran whom he knew; equally strong-willed yet lacking the ability to stand up for herself when challenged.

Li Ying had only argued with her teacher before being goaded into thinking of suicide because of an insensitive remark.

Hence, Su Cen felt rather indifferent towards Li Ying’s grateful gaze. After shaking hands with the middle-aged man, he said, "You also bear responsibility for this incident. Truly loving your child isn’t about fulfilling their every wish; having a strong sense of self-respect is not bad but more important is one's ability to cope with setbacks independently. Ultimately, you failed to let her truly stand on her own."

The office was quiet as dust particles danced in the filtered sunlight, giving it an ancient and elegant feel. After Su Cen spoke these words, everyone fell silent.

Principal Cai was momentarily stunned; he couldn’t believe that Su Cen would boldly criticize Li Ying’s parents like this.

The middle-aged woman snapped out of her thoughts, nodded, and said, "Yes, yes. What you said is right. We've been overly indulgent with the child. She should learn to stand on her own!"

The man also spoke up, saying, "Practical experience can be a teacher! That's very well put indeed. If our children could be as confident and self-reliant as you are, willing to act bravely when they see injustice, we would feel more than satisfied. It seems I should learn from your parents. They must have done a great job raising you. There will be an opportunity for me to personally visit your home and thank your parents!"

When others praised him like this, Su Can's face turned slightly red.

Cai Guotaosaid, "Secretary Li, you are so busy; there is no need."

The woman shook her head. "This must be done."

Cai Guotao didn't know what to say either and mentioned that Li Ying was quite smart. He advised the parents not only to focus on her physical health but also pay attention to her mental well-being, giving a series of instructions. He even suggested she take time off from school to review at home and rest, with her parents accompanying her more often. Meanwhile, the teacher who had been involved was punished and dismissed.

Li Ying's family then took their leave. Li Ying seemed very regretful but still expressed gratitude toward Su Can for what he did. Su Can nodded, clearly seeing that Li Ying was still extremely fearful about jumping off the building.

As long as she felt fear, it was already a good sign.

After Li Ying's family left, only Cai Guotao and Su Can remained in the office. Cai Guotao then said,

"You are quite an interesting child."

Cai Guotao glanced at the banner sent by the police station last time, which was hanging on the wall in front of him. It read: "Daring and wise to act bravely without shedding tears, standing up to protect harmony." Back then, Cai Guotao felt that Su Can had overstepped his boundaries by using the power of the police force to make them comply with his demands, which left a bad taste in his mouth. He even thought Su Can didn't deserve such a banner.

Now, however, Cai Guotao smiled and said, "Daring and wise, this banner belongs to you now. Are you not planning on taking it"

Su Can then said something that pleased him immensely, "Principal Cai, I've already stated that this is the honor of our school; everything I did was for No. 27 Middle School."

After coming down from the administration building, Su Can saw Sun Man and her group still there, but they seemed to have finished discussing their script and were now chatting idly. Seeing him, Sun Man waved enthusiastically.

He noticed that among the seven people present, six were girls who looked very attractive, while the one guy moved and behaved in a way that could be considered feminine.

Su Can hesitated for a moment but eventually walked over.

The girls sized up Su Can. Some recognized him as the one who had appeared on TV, while others did not. However, due to their pride as female leads in the broadcasting society and from the電視台女生花旦的高傲,她們隻是淡淡地斜視著他。

"Your homeroom teacher He seems very strict. Shouldn't you be praised" Sun Man said meaningfully to Su Can.

"Strictness isn't necessarily a bad thing." Su Can couldn't help but smile, remembering Wang Guiwen's words.

Seeing the Li Ying family leave school just now, a promising successor to Sun Xiaoman in the broadcasting society continued, "Sis Man, do you know what famous quote by Su Can is circulating most among our grade"

Sun Man glanced at Su Can approaching and shook her head with an odd expression. "I don't know."

"Whoever lives or strives to prove their worth – this is the deepest desire in everyone's heart, which can also be called a dream." This female student excitedly repeated, holding up both hands.

"That’s truly more profound than Pushkin's classics."

"Hey senior sister, with your extensive connections, don’t you know this Su Can He's the author of “Forest of Memories,” right It makes sense that only someone capable of writing such an article could say something like that. They also say he’s a transfer student, but it doesn’t matter; he’s already one of us from No. 27 High School!"

"That sentence has multiple meanings," teased another female student. "It seems his family really wants to make him a part of No. 27 High School."

A burst of giggling broke out as Sun Man and Su Can exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of amusement and exasperation.

“Why don’t you set up a date for us all to meet him You know, many of us are still single nobles. We want to see what he looks like. Even if he’s ugly, we need to confirm it with our own eyes before giving up.”

Sun Man blushed and pointed at Su Can: "Do you see him"

The girls shook their heads in confusion.

One corner of Su Can's mouth twitched. "Does my appearance look too sleazy"

The crowd under the shade looked at each other blankly, then shouted “ah!” and scattered.
