Chapter 9 Alliance

vans were troublemaking students. Due to their family backgrounds, bringing them back to the station was merely a symbolic gesture to prevent the situation from escalating further. Upon learning that...Alliance

The year Ji Gedian may be seen by many as a rather uneventful one, but for Shuiqing it was quite the opposite. For college football fans, this year will likely be remembered most for the FIFA World Cup held in Korea and Japan, where South Korea made it to the semi-finals, and China qualified under Coach Milu's leadership, participating in the World Cup for the first time.

This year saw people referring to those deeply engrossed in the internet as "internet addicts," with many internet cafes adopting this name. The first generation of online language terms such as "meimei" (beautiful girl) began to gain popularity, along with Korean films, culture, music, and the hot TV series Meteor Garden broadcast by various provincial satellite channels.

This year saw the restructuring of two giant telecommunications companies, China Telecom and China Unicom, which officially came into existence. Shanghai won the rights to host the World Expo. The Legend Holdings Corporation successfully developed a supercomputer with computing power in excess of one trillion operations per second, ranking it among the world's best; however, over the next eight years, China would see the development of petaflop-class computers following America’s lead and become number one globally, though as a whole, the country remained behind other nations, and its advantage might not last long.

In this year, at the top echelons of politics and business in the People's Republic, so-called "privileged capital" began to make itself known amidst slogans like "state retreats and private advances," as major state-owned enterprises were divested. Some mysterious figures with complex backgrounds worth billions of dollars moved deftly through reforms in state assets, trying to swallow up high-quality public capital; among these figures was Jian Hua, whom Su Can knew. The media reported extensively on this matter. These masters involved many interest groups and fought fiercely throughout the year before reaching a fever pitch the following year. While ordinary people might not grasp the complexities of it all, its effects were felt in their daily lives through goods they used, homes they lived in, topics they discussed, and government policies.

In this midst of clamor and changing times, there was still a small stream that persisted on its own path.

It's worth noting that during February to March of this year, Facebook, which had become mainstream among many American college students, received substantial funding in Silicon Valley. Students in North America hailed the news enthusiastically; surveys showed that many were addicted and logged on for several hours daily with a monthly login frequency ranging from 75% to 90%.

Reports about Facebook began making their way into Chinese media too, with one of the biggest revelations being that one of its founders was of Chinese descent. This eventually evolved into the latest news version that the founder currently attends Nan Da University (Nanjing University). Thus, debates on whether this founder is ethnically Chinese or a Chinese overseas continue.

After all, founding Facebook in America and then raising funds successfully in Silicon Valley, only to return to China for university studies within just a few months later, makes such an unusual life path difficult for many people to understand, leading to various speculations and doubts.

"That social network thing you mentioned Is that the one you were working on with your exchange students when you went to America during winter break" Over the phone from Nan Da University's campus area, Su Licheng spoke sternly but couldn't hide his excitement in his voice. This was typical of how he usually dealt with Su Can; although his tone was slow and somewhat righteous in inquiry, it did little to conceal his pride.

The new telephone handset at Su Cen's house had excellent quality, allowing him to hear his mother breathing beside Su Licheng, presumably listening in on their conversation.

Su Cen thought that compared to four years ago, his father was now completely different. Whether it was the tone of voice or the way he spoke, there were probably noticeable differences when dealing with others, but one thing remained unchanged: how he felt about his own son.

"Yes. I went to America for fundraising. At first, it was just an interest-driven venture, and I never expected such a massive impact afterward."

In the end, this matter had still reached his parents. Naturally, it would be difficult for Su Licheng and Zeng Ahua to notice Su Cen's information on a small section of the newspaper. Furthermore, Rongcheng was inland and not as advanced in terms of information technology compared to Shanghai. Mainstream media in Rongcheng likely wouldn't report on Facebook either. Even if they did, it would probably be treated just as a minor piece of news or gossip.

The situation would be similar to white-collar workers taking the bus or reading newspapers at their company's front desk and smilingly passing by such information without much thought.

Only someone like Liu Rui, who could leverage the convenience of the internet, had a chance to learn about this news. As per his father Su Licheng's account, he learned about Su Cen’s situation from Wang Bo, the Secretary of the Rongcheng Municipal Committee.

Su Cen thought it through and felt relieved; later on, Wang Weiwei found out about his matter too. Upon hearing that many universities in Shanghai were aware of this incident and laughing about it, demanding Su Cen treat them all to a meal.

Pause.

After contacting his father again, Wang Weiwei would no longer keep the information about Su Cen a secret. After all, Wang Bo had also been paying close attention to him.

If his father learned everything through Wang Bo, then in Su Cen's view, this was a good sign, at least indicating that their connection had reached a certain level. Before this point, Wang Bo’s interest and gratitude towards Su Cen were likely the main reasons for any assistance given to him.

But Su Cen knew that he could never use gratitude as a means to索取資源回饋的工具和憑藉。

Wang Bo was able to talk about his own matters with Su Licheng, which also proved that their relationship had progressed to a certain level. Su Can still felt quite relieved about this. Since his family was already aligned with the Wang Family Interest Group, it would be beneficial for him to爭取到像王薄這樣的強勢存在。

The recent updates have been rather unsatisfactory. I am trying my best to adjust, but please bear with me. Nan University’s audience.Su Can stood up and stared straight at Lin Luoran without hesitation. Furrowing his brow, he said, “Does my opponent's argument represent genuine freedom or is it merely an...
